For the 400th Prakash of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib ji we wanted to make a story for children that features Guru Sahib as a youth. This story is directly based on a historic text and shows the personality of the future Guru when he was young: Sri Teg Bahadur had no interest with anything in this world. His mother, Mata Nanki, was concerned about this. She sked the Guru what greatness he sees in her simple son and why he gives so much affection to the youngest son, "Teg Bahadur doesn't know what's going on. He just stays by himself... Do you see good qualities in him?"

Guru Hargobind stated about his son, "He knows everything. Even knowing all... his heart is full of patience. He is the embodiment of all good qualities. There is no one like him in the world. It's because of his qualities that he is worthy of great respect."

These words of Guru Ji, who goes on to expand on the secret virtues of his quiet son, it is a call to everyone to recognize the beauty of the soul of our children. Perhaps they have qualities we don't notice yet. It takes intuition to see how much more deep these precious souls are. So this story is also an invitation to parents and elders as well as a way for us all to relate to Guru Sahib.

"There is so much more loneliness and isolation with youth today. Many don't relate to the world, don't see their place in this life. I wanted to give a hopeful message to them, to assure the gentle young ones that they absolutely do have a destiny. And who better to see you through your destiny than Guru Teg Bahadur."

It is our prayer that this simple story both inspires youth to connect with the meditation of Guru Teg Bahadur and for the adults to look deeply into the hearts of these Khalsa who've come to earth at this time.

Great, great is Guru Teg Bahadur, may he carry us across. I will end this in the same was the story ends: With the words of Guru Sahib himself:

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਬਸੈ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਹਿਓ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ॥

ghat ghat mai har ju basai santan kahio pukaar.

The dear Lord lives in each and every heart, the saints have spoken this truth.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਭਜੁ ਮਨਾ ਭਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥12॥

kahu naanak tih bhaj manaa bhou nidh otreh paar

Says Nanak meditate and vibrate upon God and you shall be taken across the terrible world ocean.
