THE STRANGE WIND

Jas: Ready steady go!

Sim: Hey wait for me!

Baani: No pushing please!

Ajit laughing: I am winning!

A smaller child runs toward them.

Child: Can I play?

The children keep running.

Ajit: We already started.

The child slows down… stands alone.

Suddenly -

A cold wind blows.

Leaves scatter.

The sky becomes grey.

The children stop.

Sim: The wind feels strange…

Baani: Look at the sky.

A door begins banging.

BANG.

BANG.

BANG.

Sim: That sound again.

Jas: The back door!

Baani: It sounds scary.

Ajit points: Look!

A soft light shines from under the door.

Sim: It is glowing.

Baani: Doors do not glow.

Ajit: Something inside is glowing.

Jas: Let us go together.

Sim: Together is safer.

Baani: Okay… slowly.

THE DISCOVERY

The door opens slowly.

The wind stops instantly.

The room becomes quiet.

A small lantern rests on the floor, its light flickering.

Sim: It looks tired…

Baani: Like it needs help.

Ajit: We cannot leave it here.

Jas: Let’s take it to Bhaisaab ji.

They carefully pick it up.

The lantern glows a little brighter.

THE SECRET OF THE LANTERN

Bhaisaab ji sits peacefully inside the Gurdwara.

Children: Sat Sri Akal, Bhaisaab ji.

Bhaisaab ji: Sat Sri Akal, children.

Jas carefully places the lantern in front of him.

Jas: We found this behind the Gurdwara.

Sim: The door was banging.

Baani: The light was almost gone.

Ajit: Do you know what it is?

Bhaisaab ji looks at the lantern and smiles gently.

Bhaisaab ji:

Yes… this is the Lantern of Daya.

The children lean closer. The flame flickers softly.

Sim: What does it do?

Bhaisaab ji:

It shines when people choose compassion…

when someone cares for another.

Ajit: Then why is it so dim?

Bhaisaab ji becomes thoughtful.

Bhaisaab ji:

Because many people forget to notice others.

And when daya is forgotten… the light fades.

The lantern flickers weaker.

Ajit (worried): Is it dying? Can we fix it?

Bhaisaab ji looks at them warmly.

Bhaisaab ji:

The lantern does not go to everyone.

It comes to those ready to learn.

He gently turns the lantern toward them. It glows slightly brighter.

Bhaisaab ji:

You did not find the lantern…

The lantern found you.

The children stare in wonder.

Jas: What do we have to do?

Bhaisaab ji:

The lantern will show you when kindness becomes weak.

Every time you choose daya — even in small moments —

its light will grow.

The children exchange excited looks.

Sim: What if we make mistakes?

Bhaisaab ji chuckles softly.

Bhaisaab ji:

Then you learn… and make it right.

Just remember Waheguru, and the right path will appear.

The lantern glows a little warmer.

Bhaisaab ji:

Go now. The lantern will guide you where it is needed.

The children nod, holding the lantern carefully.

JAS’S REALIZATION

The lantern sits on the table.

Its light slowly becomes dim.

Jas: Why are you fading?

The lantern shows a glowing memory, like a simple golden outline replay.

Jas sees himself laughing at a child who has no lunch.

Jas grows quiet.

Jas: Oh…I thought it was just a joke…

Jas: That was not kind.

The lantern becomes slightly warmer… but still weak.
Jas understands.
Jas: ”Sorry is not enough…I have to make it right.”

MAKING IT RIGHT

Morning classroom.

The child sits alone again.

Jas walks slowly toward him, holding his lunchbox tightly.

He hesitates… then sits beside the child.

Jas: Hey…
The child looks unsure.
Jas: I laughed yesterday. That probably hurt. I am really sorry. Can we share today?

The child looks at him… then nods quietly.

They eat together.

The lantern glows brighter.

Jas notices and smiles gently… not proud, just relieved.

SMALL CHOICES, BIG CHANGE

The lantern flickers. A golden memory appears. Sim stands in a game circle. Other children wait outside.

Child: Can I join?

Sim: Only our team is playing.

The memory fades. The lantern flickers unevenly. Another memory appears. A child trips and falls. Baani walks past. She pauses… looks back… Then keeps walking. The fallen child slowly stands up alone. The memory disappears. The lantern flickers harder.

Back to present.

Sim and Baani look at the lantern. They look at each other — realizing growing.

Baani (quietly): Maybe we fix it together.

Sim nods. They turn to the group.

Sim (loud enough for everyone):
Everyone can play!

The children widen the circle. The lantern steadies a little. Suddenly — a child trips again. This time Baani rushes forward. She helps the child stand.

Baani: Are you okay?

The child smiles. The lantern glows warm and steady.

Ajit grins.

Ajit: Hey! Look… the lantern likes that!

The children laugh softly.

SILENCE AND REGRET

The lantern glows softly… then shows a memory.

A child stands near the classroom wall.

Two bullies tease him.

Other children watch.

Ajit stands nearby.

He looks worried…
He almost speaks…
But stays silent.

The child lowers his head.

The memory fades.

The lantern stays dim.

Ajit sits quietly.

Ajit: I said nothing…

Later — next day hallway memory.

Ajit walks up to the child.

Ajit: I’m sorry about yesterday.

The child nods politely… but still looks sad.

The lantern does not change.

Ajit looks down at it.

Ajit (worried):
I don’t know how to fix it.

The lantern flickers faintly.

FINDING COURAGE TOGETHER

The child sits alone again.

The bullies approach.

Ajit sees them.

He freezes.

The lantern trembles in his hands.

He remembers Bhaisaab ji’s voice:

"The right path will appear."

Ajit takes a breath…

He steps forward —

Then stops.

Suddenly —

Jas stands beside him.

Jas: We’re together.

Sim joins.

Sim: Stop that.

Baani walks to the child and gently holds his hand.

Baani: Come sit with us.

Ajit gathers courage.

He stands taller.

Ajit: No one stands alone.

The bullies hesitate… then walk away.

Silence.

The lantern bursts into bright golden light.

All the children stare in amazement.

Ajit exhales — relieved.

THE LIGHT RETURNS

The children place the lantern in front of Bhaisaab ji.

It now glows warm and steady in their hands.

Bhaisaab ji smiles.

Bhaisaab ji: You helped its light return.

Sim looks at the lantern carefully.

Sim: Will it stay bright?

Bhaisaab ji looks at them kindly.

Bhaisaab ji:
As long as people choose daya. Just like this lantern…each of you carries one inside your heart. When you choose compassion instead of comfort…its light grows.

The lantern flickers softly — almost like it understands.

The children glance at one another.

Bhaisaab ji slowly takes out an old folded cloth map and opens it.

Soft golden light spreads across it.

Five simple symbols appear.

Only the lantern symbol shines brightly.

Jas: What are those?

Bhaisaab ji: More elements are waiting to be found and fixed in the world.

He gently points to the glowing lantern symbol.

Ajit: Will we find them?

Bhaisaab ji smiles.

Bhaisaab ji:
When your heart is ready… the path appears.

He folds the map and hands it to them.

Bhaisaab ji (softly):
Whenever you feel unsure, remember Waheguru…
and do ardaas.
The Guru always guides those who try.

The children hold the lantern together.

It shines peacefully.

They smile
