NEW JERSEY (USA): One of the most visible and proudest contributions by the Sikhs has been the continued valiantly and sacrifices by the Sikh Regiment.  With over 160 years of establishment and defeating enemies on domestic soil and abroad, the Sikh Regiment has proven its existence has helped to alter events in the world.

Nava Wear, a new clothing line, commemorates and celebrates the proud history of the Sikh Regiment by issuing 4 T-shirts for its 2009 Summer collection.   A goal of Nava Wear is to promote the proud Sikh and Punjabi world through art, t-shirt art.  They have just launched their website, nava-wear.com, making their designs available to the world.

It’s founder, Satinder Singh, came up with the idea to celebrate the Sikh Regiment by t-shirts because he wanted to promote the proud Sikh and Punjabi world for all ages through t-shirt.  He worked with a few graphic designers to come up with the designs.  His stamp of approval on the designs was his two grade school boys, wife and his non-Sikh friends.  When they all said they would wear the t-shirts he decided to make a move.T shirt depicting battle of Saragarhi

“What I saw in the desi t-shirt market was mostly one-liners not art.  Though I enjoy one-liners, I see t-shirts as an art board” is what Satinder commented.

In one of the t-shirts Nava Wear showcases the key battles the Sikh Regiment fought in and a separate t-shirt honors the Battle of Saragarhi.

“The Sikh youth should know about the Battle of Saragarhi and the valor of the Regiment that day.  It is a battle that is discussed in military schools around the world.”, stated Satinder.

Nava Wear also kicked off a smaller t-shirt collection for the summer, ‘Punjabi Music’.

“We have a lot more ideas in our head and plan to come out with more t-shirt designs for the world to wear.  We look for the support of the Punjabi community world wide.”
