Q How did your involvement in career education begin?

A It started when I began my career as a Systems Analyst at Coleman 20 years ago. What inspired me most was being part of an organization that was solely committed to improving the quality of lives of individuals. Though management was not my forte initially, it quickly became apparent with my passion for education that, given the opportunity in management, I could potentially influence the decision making process within the organization. There were plenty of opportunities that came by that advanced my career from a Systems Analyst to Chief Information Officer, Executive Vice President and, finally, President, which I have served as since July 2003.

Q What motivates you most professionally?

A Getting up each day and realizing that something new is on the forefront of technology that is going to drive the direction of the IT industry. The challenge, and also the greatest responsibility, is to be able to lead and inspire others to make the changes within the programs so that our students become beneficiaries of the knowledge that will make them successful in their careers.

Q Please describe your values and philosophy in operating schools.

A Our first overall objective of our mission is paramount: "to improve the quality of every student accepted at Coleman University." To achieve this, one has to be prepared to listen to the needs of the community and the students, and then help align the curriculum so that not only are the needs of the community met effectively, but the dreams of our students are also realized.

Q Given Coleman's recent ascension to university status, how has the quality of education changed at your institution throughout the years? Has your dedication deepened?

A Most colleges that transition from college to the university status plot a deliberate course and work for years ramping up educational offerings and programs to achieve the more esteemed title. Coleman University arrived at that place naturally, while evolving as a learning institution and following its organizational mission to provide the best education opportunities to its students.

Q How do you think Coleman University is perceived in the local community? Do you think that perception will change with the new university moniker?

A Coleman University's achievements come from its inverted program of study, where students learn core subjects from the beginning and are prepared to enter the industry before degree completion. Implementing this approach provides graduates with an advantage over traditional colleges and universities because graduates are able to enter the job market faster. Coleman has always been perceived as the leader in the IT field, and we will continue to provide excellence in education.

Q What is your definition of success?

A I totally believe what Albert Schweitzer stated: "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.
If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

Q What innovations have you brought to Coleman University in your leadership role?

A We believe that we have some very sound core values within the organization that are responsible for the success of the University and which inspire everyone to work toward the best interest of our students. My job becomes much easier to implement the changes, which are many, because we work as a team to take the university to newer heights.
