New Discovery Channel Documentary
NRI Sikh Needed visiting Harmandir Sahib end of December
Wednesday, Dec 8, 2010: The Discovery Channel is creating a documentary about Sikhs and the Golden Temple and looking for an NRI Sikh to participate in the Film. See details below:
"We are an Indian crew making a film on Sikhism that will be shown in 150 countries through the Discovery Channel. It is part of their 'Revealed' series. We are getting rare access into the Sri Harmandar Sahib & Akal Takth at Amritsar and we plan to weave our story through this site. We are delving into all aspects of Sikhism - from its history to it's philosophical legacy, its temporal & spiritual ideals of Miri & Piri, Seva & Simran, its martial traditions, the 10 gurus and the 11th guru, Guru Granth Sahib (its mystical poetry & musical maryada) and much, much more.
We hope to do this through certain key characters who we follow as they visit & experience the Sri Harmandar Sahib, often reffered to as the epicentre of Sikhism. Some of these characters are from the Gurudwara itself (such as the granthis, raagis & others), some are from outside.?" |
They are looking for:
"Someone who lives outside India, yet is deeply rooted in his or her culture - someone who visits the Gurudwara at Amritsar and shares their unique perspective of still being able to maintain a connect with their faith in spite of living far from where a majority of Sikhs reside. This NRI character would add great depth to our film as it will be a first hand telling of the Sikh identity from beyond Indian shores.
If this person agrees to be part of our film, we will request that they visit India during the Christmas holidays and spend some time on shoot with our crew in Amritsar (of course all travel & accommodation will be taken care of by Discovery).
I would be grateful if you could direct towards someone who you feel would be a good representative of this NRI perspective in our film. We are looking to shoot between Christmas and the Jan 5th Guru Purab. Of this, the NRI character would be required for anywhere between 5 to 10 days in Amritsar.
We will film his/ her experience in and around the Golden Temple. Possibly doing langar seva or seva at the shoe counter, interacting with the people there, reflecting on his/ her Sikh identity and talking about how Sikhism touches his/ her life."
Update: The channel now has all the contacts it needs so no further people are needed for the production.
