SikhNet’s Fundamentals of Gurmat Sangeet Enters Level 3

The journey through the Raags of Sri Guru Granth Sahib continues as students of SikhNet’sFundamentals of Gurmat Sangeet program prepare to begin Level 3 on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Conducted under the guidance of Dr. Gurnam Singh and taught by Dr. Leena Singh, the online program provides a structured pathway into the authentic tradition of Raag-based Shabad Keertan. The curriculum is presented through SikhNet Learning Center in academic association with Sikh Heritage Symphony and Guru Nanak School, San Jose.

With Levels 1 and 2 now completed, students are entering the final level of the foundational stage of this seven-level journey through the 31 Raags of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Students who have not previously completed Levels 1 and 2 through the program, but already have experience in music or Shabad Keertan, may also request an assessment for direct entry into Level 3.

Building the Foundation Through Levels 1 and 2

The Shabad Keertan curriculum extends from Level 1 through Level 7, progressively guiding students through all 31 main Raags of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Level 1 introduces beginners to Shabad Keertan, establishing a foundation in music and Gurbani-based singing to prepare them for the Raag-based learning that follows.

In Level 2, students moved more deeply into the Raag tradition of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, learning Shabad Keertan in four Raags:

Bilawal • Aasa • Kalyan • Bhairao

Through this study, students began developing a deeper understanding of individual Raags and experiencing how Raag provides a musical framework for the expression of Shabad.

Level 3: The Next Four Raags

Beginning October 25, Level 3 will continue this journey with four additional Raags of Sri Guru Granth Sahib:

Dhanasri • Parbhati • Devgandhari • Ramkali

Over the 10-week Level 3 course, students will learn eight Shabads across these four Raags, continuing to develop their understanding of Raag, melody, rhythm, Gurbani pronunciation, and the musical expression of Shabad.

Together, Levels 2 and 3 introduce students to 16 Shabads across eight Raags:

Bilawal • Aasa • Kalyan • Bhairao • Dhanasri • Parbhati • Devgandhari • Ramkali

The completion of Level 3 will mark an important milestone for students as they complete the Fundamentals of Gurmat Sangeet — Levels 1–3 and prepare to continue into the advanced stage of the curriculum.

From Fundamentals to All 31 Raags

The foundational levels are only the beginning of a much larger musical journey.

After completing Level 3, students can continue into Advanced Gurmat Sangeet: Journey Through All 31 Raags through Levels 4–7. These advanced levels expand the curriculum across the remaining Raags of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and introduce additional Gurbani musical forms and compositions.

The complete seven-level curriculum is designed as a progressive pathway—from an introduction to music and simple Shabad compositions to the study and performance of Shabad Keertan across all 31 Raags of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

At the heart of this program is a simple purpose: to give learners around the world an opportunity to develop a meaningful connection with Gurbani through the musical tradition established by the Sikh Gurus.

As students prepare to begin Level 3, they are taking another important step in their journey through Shabad, Raag, and the living tradition of Gurmat Sangeet.
