The Man in Blue - Maya.

Why do so many Sikhs think that putting all your energy into acquiring a big house, a big car and a huge television is in tune with Guru’s teachings ?

I recognise that when you are on a high level of spirituality you can experience the greatest luxury and the simplest lifestyle without your spiritual balance being disturbed by it.

Even I learned to accept food as it comes, whether I am offered a feast or just simple roti and dal. I enjoy the simple and the luxury food. In Panjab I appreciated proper toilets and bathrooms in western style houses but also accepted it when I had to wash at a tap in the wall and had to do ‘my business’ in the fields when in villages.

Many Sikhs moved from the villages in Panjab to western countries in order to better themselves. It is perfectly legitimate to want better chances for your children, to want to live in a society with freedom of speech. But a better life is not a life rich in material goods, a better life is a life rich in spirituality.

There is no merit in being poor. But owning a house is not more spiritual than renting a flat, having a Mercedes is not more spiritual than having a bus pass, a house that looks like something from a catalogue is not more spiritual than a place that looks as if people live in it.

Guru’s Sikhs agree with Kabir when he asks Vahiguru to give him a small house, a bed and simple food, and then he could dedicate his life to God.

Too much is as damaging to the soul as too little. Few people can be spiritual while being homeless and desperately looking for their next crust of bread. Equally only spiritual giants can be filthy rich and not be attached to their wealth.

Guru Gobind Singh lived at the court of Patna like a prince and also had no wants when he lived in Anandpur Sahib. He lived in the jungle and spent the night in huts after he left Chamkaur Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh, unlike us, was a spiritual giant. Guru’s life was dedicated to spiritual values, he could live both in rich and poor surroundings and be in sahaj, in spiritual balance.

Bhai Laloo had a small house and simple food and was happy. Malik Bhagoo had a big house and many servants who did all his work. Milk came from Laloos roti and blood from Malik Bhagoo’s. Guru Nanak obviously preferred Laloo’s simple life over the Malik’s luxury.

We should be like Bhai Laloo, make an honest living and live a simple life. If we are successful in our careers, we should not waste our money on luxury

We Need the True Guru for Guidance.

"actualy we do not need to see or look in the outside, for it is in our true self that such reality resides... " Thats why Guru Ji or teacher is important, Guru Nanak Ji came to teach us the science of Self realisation who we are , where we came from and what happens after death, we (Atma) are the self and Wahaguru is the original self Param Atma without the true Guru we are all lost.

actualy we do not need to

actualy we do not need to see or look in the outside, for it is in our true self that such reality resides...

It would be great to see

It would be great to see people with such attitudes in life...

most men's ignorant actions

most men's ignorant actions comes from their lack of internal observation, they do not look inside and as a result they just sprout desires for the outside as a consequence of their lack of true sitting with their conciousness. WAHEGURU is not just a word,a prayer a chant or a desire to be fullfilled, but true direct experience with the divine...but men seem to be more atracted to intoxication by following the illusion of possession...and as a result..no knowledge of how a simple life can bring them so much closer to true happiness...

THIS IS DONE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW BETTER

Most people who put money before gurus ji out of ignorance are called business people, or bania. This comes from hinduism Please Guru Ji give me a big job....here is $5.00 Please Guru Ji find a nice rich tall boy from good family for my daughter ...here is $10.00 Guru Ji nothing is happening, Are you listening? Please here is $20.00 please do not disappoint me. You did it for my two sisters….. All of this foolishness comes from materialists Hindu Pundits; they make a livelihood out of Hindu religion. They have no teachings, because there is no teachings in Hindi film songs...and many Sikhs have embraced this nonsense. The money should be wrapped and given to those who maintain the Gurdwaras all in the service of Wahaguru Ji. After all its His money, and we are giving back out of an act of love…that’s why we offer beautiful with flowers with fragrance to Baba Ji. (this is Bhakti) Unfortunately many members commit great sins by misusing Wahaguru Ji's money, but they have to suffer for these bad Karmas. What ever we give, even a single penny, it must be given with pure love, and then Wahguru Ji will accept, the same with food or flowers offered to Wahaguru Ji. We need to remove ignorance. This is how we Pray to Wahaguru Ji Wahaguru Ji “IF” IT IS YOUR DESIRE TO GIVE ME ANYTHING” GOOD OR BAD” I AM PREPERED TO ACCEPT , BUT PLEASE BLESS ME SO THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR HOLY NAME AND BE IN THE COMPANY OF SANGAT”.

hindus are good too

not all hindus try to buy gifts from god. the essence of hindu dharma is the same as sikhi at the core. there are devotees of god in all religions and there are those who use god as a wishing well. not all sikhs are pure. not all pandits are greedy. we should never generalize and insult any religion rather we should encourage all to follow their path lovingly and honestly accepting everything as gods will.

yes ..... rightly said Respect ALL, Worship ONE < ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ

Well said, But....

I hundred percent agree with the article, but if you look at picture of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, it has money laying front of it (people are worshiping the picture). We Sikhs don't worship pictures or deities only Guru Granth Sahib. Picture without money laying front of it would been better choice.

Absolutely beautifully
