The Anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Akal Takhat

The word is "akal" and what we are celebrating today is in memory of the Akal Takhat.

Takhat means "Tirath". Tirath means that which has the base and which ultimately means sovereign. Takhat means throne. Throne was a place which was thrown away from God. So word is Akal Takhat. Timelessness. Throne of timelessness.

Sikh youths offer food to Mumbai security forces

MUMBAI: During the chaotic aftermath of the terror strikes many ordinary Mumbaikars came out on the streets to offer whatever help they could.
One such group of young Sikhs worked relentlessly during last few days to offer food and water to security forces at Taj and Oberoi hotels.

After the gruesome terrorist attacks a group of Sikh youths offered food to the security forces to help out in whatever way they can.

Sikh youth group to serve Surrey Gurdwara

It is the end of an era at Surrey's Guru Nanak Sikh Temple. Longtime president Balwant Singh Gill was defeated in temple elections Sunday that saw a Khalsa youth group sweep all the temple executive positions.

The youth group, headed by presidential candidate Amardeep Singh, won with 5,900 votes to Gill's 4,747, following by third-place finisher Sadhu Singh Samra, with 3,947.

"With the blessings of God and the Guru, we pledge to serve the entire community with honesty, integrity, universal love and a commitment to the truth."
